Dr. Fortunato received his degree in Industrial and Organizational (I/O) Psychology in 1997 from the University at Albany, State University of New York and was Director of Graduate Training in I/O Psychology at the University of Southern Mississippi prior to joining Boise State University. Dr. Fortunato has consulted with several private and public institutions in the areas of Organizational Development and Human Resource Management.

Research 
Dr. Fortunato is interested in the individual and organizational factors that influence the overall health, well being, and effectiveness of organizational employees as well as the organizational, environmental, and social systems in which they operate. Specific areas of research include examining the dispositional and situational antecedents of job stress, job attitudes, mood at work, constructive and destructive work behaviors, withdrawal behavior, and motivation and productivity. Dr. Fortunato is also interested in examining the relationships between personality and stress on sleep quality and performance, as well as issues related to the spiritual beliefs and practices and ethical and moral behavior, or lack thereof, on the part of organizational leaders.
